Routines and Procedures
It takes a great deal of training to become a midwife, and you are not expected to have an in-depth knowledge of any routines or procedures when you are applying for training.
It helps to have an overview though, to show that you are aware of what this aspect of the role involves and that you take it seriously.
Select ‘Yes’ to the skills you will learn as part of your midwifery training, or select ‘No’ to the tasks below which you will NOT be trained to do to a competent level before qualifying.

PPE
On question 3 we mentioned that when giving intravenous drugs you would need to consider PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
The aim of using PPE is to protect against health or safety risks. PPE reduces the risk:
- Of transmission of micro-organisms to the patient
- Of contamination of the midwives clothing or skin by the patient’s blood and bodily fluids by wearing suitable equipment for the task
PPE is an essential part of the uniform for student midwives
